Una vez terminadas las zonas del río con piedras, es hora de empezar con el color. Una vez más, tras ver varios vídeos y tutoriales (Russ, que haríamos hoy en día sin YouTube!!), Jordi sugirió usar una técnica de modelismo ferroviario con pigmentos líquidos. Y, como aquí estamos para aprender, nos pusimos a ello.

Once he rocks of the river areas are done it is time to start poruing colour to them. Once again, after watching several tutorials (Grandpa Nurgle, what would be do without YouTube!) Jordi suggested using the technique of liquid pigments. And since we are always learning, we went for it.

Para las piedras que hay en los márgenes del río, nos decidimos por unos tonos marrones. así que con un set de pigmentos líquidos de Woodland Scenics, con tres tonos distintos de marrones y un cuarto pigmento negro, nos pusimos manos a la obra.

For the riverside rocks we decided to use brownish tones. So, armed with a three-browns-and-one-black Woodland Scenics' pigment set, we started working on it.

Como hacen en los vídeos, diluimos aun más los pigmentos y empezamos a aplicar de más claro a más oscuro por zonas y solapando-se en algunos lugares. Una vez los pigmentos habían secado, barnizamos la zona con una mezcla muy diluida de agua y cola blanca, a modo de fijador y finalmente, para igualar todo un poco, dimos una capa con el pigmento negro muy muy muy diluido.

As they do in several videos, we thinned the pigments even more and applied them form the brightest to the darkest working by areas and sometimes overlapping them. Once the pgiments were dry, we covered them with a very thinned mix of water and white glue to fix them. Finally we covered all with a very, very thinned layer of black pigment to unify the rocky outcrops.

Para terminal, con algunas pinturas de Acrylicas Vallejo, de la sección de Model Color, dimos en algunos puntos de las piedras unas finas luces, para que resaltaran más las zonas que están más expuestas a los elementos. También empezamos a dar una capa de color base selladora azul al lecho del río.

We ended the work for today with some paints from Vallejo Acrylics' Model Color range, giving some subtle lights to several stones to reflect that those areas were more exposed to the elements. We also painted a sealing blue base layer to the river.

Estamos muy contentos del resultado que hemos obtenido usando estas técnicas y serán las mismas que usaremos para la parte pedregosa de la colina grande. Al río, ahora queda, con algo de tinta, dar unos ligeros toques en algunas de las rocas (para representar el verdín y el moho) y empezar con el lecho del río y las orillas. Pero eso ya, para el próximo día.

We are happy with the results achieved so far and we are going to use this techniques for the bigger hill. Now we are going to use some inks to gave subtle touches of mold and mustiness to the rocks and to start working with the river proper, but for that we must wait until the next day.
