That's true, we are entering the wonderful world of Epic (in it's thousand iterations Adeptus Titanicus, Space Marine, Epic 40.000, Epic Armaggedon, NetEpic and more). We are using Epic 40.000 beacause of it's simplicity and playability. We had played several basic introduction games: Few points, few warmachines and no flyers. That's over. Today we bring you a full game: titans, aviation and almost 2.000 points per army. On one side Alberto's Tyranids and on the other VIIII Legion's Orks commanded by Sergi.

We set up the table and roll to see which scenario we were playing. It was Clash of Vanguards, an scenario with objectives (For the Orks, the Tyranids do not use them) with a rather peculiar deployment, since both armies enter the battlefied in columns and fight for seven turns.

Tyranid forces entered first in the battlefield with marching orders (thus allowed to move at the triple without shooting). This allowed the swarms to quickly seize the middle of the battlefield. The Orks took it easy and deployed to the flanks seeking good shooting positions and to surround Tyranid positions.

As everyone was too far away for shooting (most weapon's ranges are 45cm) there was no shooting nor assault phases, so the first turn was a quick one.

With the second and third turn came destruction at great scale for both armies.Ork fighter-bombers were ready at turn 2 whilst the Tyranid flyers came in turn 3. The Orkish Snakebite detachment received assault orders (which allows for moving, shooting with half firepower and assault afterwards) and the Evilsunz of the left fank too. The Tyranid Hive Mind also gave several assault hordes except for the artillery support detachment, which received the suppresive fire order (sacrifing movement for rerolling to hit during shooting).

During the shooting phases almost all detachemnt suffered casualties and blast markers (which affect troop moral) and the Boar riders failed their test to charge during the Assault phase (they needed 2+ in 1D6 and the Orkish Warboss was near enough to grant a reroll to no avail...), so they did not assault but the Tyranids in fron of them did so (as they always pass their Moral checks whilst inside the Synaptic web). In fact, the assaults happened all across the battlefield even engaging all warmachines of both armies.

The assaults were quick, as were the firefights, leaving a good degree of units dead. Luckily for the Orks they managed to win most fights (Only the Great Gargant lost, but warmachines do not retreat).

The end of the game came with an epic close combat between the Ork Great Gargant, the Tyranid Hierophant and a sea of chitin at their feet. It ended in Tyranid victory but only after several broods were crushed by the Gargant. Worse still, the Orkish warmachine suffered catastrophic damages and exploded shredding the internal organs of the Hierophant in the process effectively killing it.

An awesome match which ended in a draw due to lack of time. It is always wonderful to see a battlefield with all the miniatures painted (Thanks to Alberto's work with the Tyranids and to Sergi and Oriol for their own with the Orks).
