[Seven days to the river Rhine] Yom Kippur War - Altos del Golán

 

Seguimos descubriendo y aprendiendo las reglas y mecánicas de este juego de combate moderno. Para seguir adentrándonos en este sistema, Oriol y Sergi han decidido jugar una batalla con el primer suplemento del juego, la Guerra del Yom Kippur de 1973 entre arabes e israelies. Más concretamente una escaramuza por la zona de los Altos del Golán. Se prepararon sendos ejércitos de 500 puntos, el estándar recomendado de este juego y dispusimos la mesa siguiendo el espíritu del reglamento, cuanta más escenografía, ¡¡mejor!!

We continue to learn the rules of this modern combat game. To continue diving in it Oriol and Sergi decided to play a battle of it's first supplement: the war of Yom Kippur of 1973 between Arabs and Israelis. To be precise, this time we fought an skirmish near the Golan Heights. Both players preapred armies of 500 points, the standar of the game, and set up the table in tune with the spirit of the game: the more terrain, the merrier!

La partida empezó con las unidades árabes de los flancos avanzando para tomar mejores posiciones y proteger el centro (los blindados y la infantería a pie) de un posible movimiento de pinza. Los israelíes, reaccionaron a estos movimientos, avanzando algunos de sus blindados con la idea de disparar a los BTR que transportaban a los soldados árabes. Pero sus disparos pasaron muy lejos de los transportes blindados y las tropas pudieron desplegarse sin mayores problemas.

The game started with Arab units advacing at the flanks to secure better positions and to protect the center, where foot infantry and armour remained still, from a possible pincer movement. The Israelis reacted advancing with some tanks to shoot the incoming BTR and their cargo, but failed to hit anything and the Arabs deployed without further issues.

Una vez la infantería estuvo en posición, llegó el momento de mover los blindados. Y aquí sí, empezó el espectáculo.  El primero en avanzar fue un IS-3 árabe, que fue interceptado por uno de los blindados israelíes y quedó casi, casi, fuera de combate a la primera de cambio. Un T-62 avanzó para cubrir al IS, pero no tuvo mejor suerte y un tiro bien colocado lo destruyó en un momento. Parecía que el avance árabe se iba a frenar nada más empezar. Por suerte, en el otro extremo del campo de batalla, otro T-62 maniobró bien y tras un par de disparos, consiguió acabar con un blindado israelí.

Once the infantry was in position, it was armour time. And then the show began. First moving was an Arab IS-3, but it was intercepted by Israeli tank fire and almost knocked out of action. A T-62 advanced to cover the IS, but what destroyed by the good aim of a Jewish gunner. It seemed that the Arabs were about to be halted on their tracks, but at the other side of the battlefeld a second T-62 managed to destroy one of the opposing tanks without much troubles.

Los turnos se fueron alternando y la iniciativa fue cambiando de bando mientras más y más blindados disparaban, destruían o eran destruidos. Cuando buena parte de los blindados más pesado ya estaban fuera de combate o dañados, los dos jugadores se acordaron de que contaban con unidades de infantería y que estas, estaban armadas con armas anti-tanque. Así que fue el momento de ceder la iniciativa a los soldados a pie y empezar a maniobrar con ello. Lo que llevó a la destrucción de más blindados, gracias a la posibilidad de la infantería de mover casi libremente por cualquier terreno y/o obstáculo.

Turns alternated and initiative changed sides as more and more armour shot, killed and died. When most part of the heavier tanks were ot of combat or seriously damaged, both players remembered that they had infantry units at their disposal and that they had AT weapons. Thus initiative went to the footmen which in turn led to even more burning wrecks thanks to the ability of the infantry to move thorough any terrain and obstacle without penalties.

Al final de la partida no había un vencedor claro. En el flanco derecho israelí aunque un AMX-13 estaba intentando cubrir ese flanco, los blindados pesados habían sido destruidos y un T-62 árabe aun estaba operativo en la zona. En el centro se había desatado un durísimo combate entre las infanterías de ambos ejércitos y en el flanco derecho, una unidad de Fuerzas Especiales árabes, habían destruido casi todos los blindados israelíes, aun a costa de sufrir muchos impactos y estar muy tocados.

At the end of the game there was no clear winner. At the Israeli right flank, even if an AMX-13 was trying to cover the area, he was left alone and there was an Arab T-62 still operative. At the center a vicious firefight had decimated the infantry of both countries and at the Arab righ flank a unit of the Arab special forces had managed to wipe out almost all Jew armour, even if they had suffered several hits in return.

En el Castro de la VIIII Legión ya ha empezado la escalada armamentística desatada por lo que nos ha gustado este juego y varios ejércitos empieza a realizar maniobras y a preparar sus tropas para el combate, israelíes, iraquíes, rusos, OTAN, americanos y chinos entrarán pronto en combate por todo el planeta.

Here at the castrum of the VIIII Legion there is a weapon's escalation caused by this game and several armies are being formed and readied for combat: Israel, Iraq, Soviet Union, NATO, USa and China are soon going to fight all across the globe.
